EP246 with Sam Fleet: Communication Is Key to Success

Sam Fleet is a successful business owner; he has been married for 37 years, he is a father, a grandfather, and a generous leader to many. While his business is a huge aspect of his life and story, he shares the reminder that we are all connected as fathers - despite our jobs.

In this conversation, he shares how his father left when he was six years old and how that inspired him to be a great father and husband.  Even as a businessman Sam always strove to put his family first to ensure he didn't put another generation through the upbringing he experienced.

We discuss patience during certain seasons of fatherhood and certain development for your kids.  All of the work during those seasons comes to fruition as they grow. We talk about the importance of giving your older children space to grow and fly out of the nest.

He shares advice on how to handle when your kids make mistakes and the best way to show up for them. We talk about practical steps to maintain communication with your kids in middle school and high school. He prioritizes listening, comprehending, and acting without being wrapped up emotionally.

Sam also shared his battle with cancer in 2019 and how it changed his perspective on Fatherhood and being a Grandfather. From this, he's created a foundation to leave a strong lasting legacy for future generations.

About the Podcast

Fatherhood Field Notes
Fatherhood Field Notes is where we hear real stories from real men living real lives every week. Fatherhood is not only about being a dad, it incorporates providing and serving a home, loving and serving a spouse, engaging and serving in a community, as well as intentionally serving your children. Fatherhood is an adventure, one full of fun, wild, and messy stories. In this podcast, we will hear stories from real men who have found themselves living the Adventure of Fatherhood. The Craft of Fatherhood episodes are 5-10 minute episodes where your guide Ned Schaut shares stories on his own fatherhood journey.
